TITLE: Tolkein’s World

I was tasked with Art directing this 100 page art book based on the world of Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings books. To avoid legal issues with the film production company (New Line Cinema), the author, editor and I had to base all art on the written text of the books and I had brief all 130 artworks making sure anything adjusted/created by the films could create an issue. All art was based on a sketches/ notes by me, utilising my storyboard/draftsman skills.

No expense or time was spared creating this immersive world within legal restrictions. This title had a window to release in time with; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

The illustrator Peter Mckinstry is now a concept artist for Marvel Studios.
